Do you like having your baked, sweet product and eating it, too? Then you’re the exact person Plantronics had in mind for its Plantronics RIG 500E gaming headset.
At first glance, the RIG 500E looks like your typical headset. Closer inspection, however, reveals something different. The thing actually comes apart, and in a good way. It’s something that’s immediately obvious the moment you unbox it. The headband and mic start out separated and you get not one but two different pairs of earcups. One pair sports a fabric surface while the other uses a leather-style material. It’s almost like getting two pairs of headphones in one.
Once put together, the RIG 500E is quite light, making it more comfortable for extended jaunts. It doesn’t feel quite as solid as a traditional pair of headphones, however, so you’ll want to handle it with care. Sound, on the other hand, is pretty good with excellent separation and dynamic audio, albeit with the highs emphasized a bit strongly. This obviously makes it great for chat but treble and vocals can feel quite piercing when listening to regular tunes. On the plus side, it’s got Dolby 7.1 functionality to boot.
