Plantronics (NYSE: PLT) today announced it is hosting a community
celebration at its Santa Cruz headquarters to thank the people and
businesses of the surrounding area, as well as company employees, for
their many years of support and community involvement. The event, which
coincides with the company’s 50th anniversary milestone, is scheduled
for Thursday, May 26, and will feature prominent guest speakers from
state and city government, area non-profit groups, and other local
organizations.
For five decades Plantronics has helped people stay connected and simply
communicate; from the headset worn by the first man on the moon to next
generation mobile communication solutions that allow people to converse
from nearly anywhere. In addition to special guest speakers, the
festivities will also include tours of the corporate facility and a
welcome reception hosted by Plantronics’ President and CEO, Ken
Kannappan.
“Plantronics is proud of its heritage and is happy to share its
continued success with the community,” said Ken Kannappan, president and
chief executive officer, Plantronics. “The values and strengths that
Plantronics has gotten from the community here have played a large role
in our success. This event is Plantronics’ way of opening its doors to
those supporters in thanks, gratitude and celebration.”
Scheduled speakers include Ryan Coonerty, Mayor of Santa Cruz; Willy
Elliott-McCrea, Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank Santa
Cruz County; Virginia Johnson, Executive Director and CEO of Ecology
Action; the Honorable Joe Simitian, California State Senator; and David
Yager, Dean of the Arts, University of California, Santa Cruz.
Immediately following the guest presentations, event attendees will have
the option to take a tour of the corporate offices, including its
renowned industrial design center, and its new solar panel installation.
As part of its ongoing commitment to the community, Plantronics
regularly participates in activities such as food drives, product
donations, employee fundraising, and volunteerism, in addition to making
cash donations. These efforts benefit organizations such as Second
Harvest Food Bank, the United Way, Ecology Action, and numerous other
local non-profits.
Additionally, Plantronics has made a major commitment in support of the
environment with its recent installation of solar panels. Now fully
operational, the company’s solar installation is the largest in Santa
Cruz County, and approximately 80% of the company’s corporate site
utility bill is expected to be offset by the energy it generates. On a
related note, the company has also installed sun tubes throughout its
headquarters which collect and redirect sunlight to provide more natural
light within the building.
Also part of Plantronics’ 50th anniversary milestone was the company’s
recent launch of new products designed to address evolving work styles
and simplify workplace communications during an event at the New York
Stock Exchange. The event, which included a webcast, featured customers,
analysts and partners, who spoke about the changing communication needs
of business professionals and their evolving work environments;
including the emerging trend of offices and cubicles being replaced with
flexible and mobile work environments. A replay of the event can be
